GED Requirements

 
Title of state credential:
State of Alaska High School Diploma By Examination.

Requirements for issuance of diploma:
Minimum test scores: A standard score of 410 on each of the five tests and an average of 450 on all five tests (total standard score of 2250).

Minimum age:
Applicants who are at least eighteen (18) years of age and have not received a high school diploma, or high school equivalency certificate may test. Applicants who are sixteen to seventeen (16-17) years of age must present a withdrawal slip from the last school attended in Alaska, a legal emancipation document or written permission from a parent or guardian before testing is allowed.

Residence:
Applicants must be physically present in the state at the time application is made. An Alaskan temporarily residing out of the state may receive a diploma upon submission of an application by the GED Testing Service, a United States Armed Forces Institute, a Veteran's Administration Hospital, or a federal correctional institution.

Method of applying:
An official Alaskan GED Test Center must notify the Alaska State Department of Labor and Workforce Development when an applicant has successfully completed testing. The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development will issue the transcript and diploma.

Requirements for re-testing:
A person may take any part of the GED test that the person has failed. If a battery or subtest is readministered to an applicant, a different form of the test must be used. The highest score achieved must be recorded. There is no limit to the number of times a person may take the test. 

Official transcripts:
Test scores are accepted as official only when reported directly by:

  1. Official GED Testing Centers;
  2. Transcript Service of Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES);
  3. Veterans Administration hospitals and centers; and
  4. The GED Testing Service
Fees:
Testing at Official GED Testing Centers: Varies, but fees may not exceed the following amounts:
  1. $25.00 for a complete battery; or $5.00 for a single test or retest.
  2. Issuance of diploma: No fee for initial diploma.
  3. Re-issuance of diploma: $10.
  4. Transcript: No fee
